Feeling Invisible Online? My Pinterest Glow-Up Took Me From $30k to $200k

If you’ve ever found yourself doom-scrolling through Instagram or Pinterest wondering how in the world people are making real money online... I see you. That used to be me, too.

I’d see women posting about how being an “influencer,” “content creator,” or “blogger” was their full-time job. And for years, I honestly thought they had to be lying—or that they just had rich husbands or daddy’s money. (Cringe. I’m lowkey embarrassed I used to think like that, lol.)

But then one day, after realizing nursing wasn’t going to work out for me, I was desperate. Even though I didn’t fully believe it was legit, I decided to give blogging and social media a try. It sounded like the dream job if it actually worked. Worst-case scenario? I’d confirm my suspicions that it was all a scam. So, I started a blog and a Pinterest account.

The first few months were rough. I made basically no money—but I started seeing little signs that it could work, so I kept going.

Eventually, I gained a bit of traffic and started making a little money here and there. After nearly a year of blogging, I was able to quit my job—but I was only making around $30,000 a year. It was enough to scrape by (thanks to my husband also working), but definitely not enough to become a stay-at-home mom, buy my dream home, or travel the way I wanted.

A few months later, everything changed.

I had read more books and taken more digital marketing classes than I ever thought I would... and one day, it just clicked. I created a Pinterest strategy that became the foundation of my entire business. I went from making a little over $2,000/month to around $20,000/month.

At first, I truly thought it was a fluke. I was scared to even say it out loud—like talking about it would jinx it or something. I didn’t even tell my husband right away.

But then it happened again.
And again.
And again.

So finally, after months of consistent success, I knew it was time to stop gatekeeping. I want to share what I’ve learned with you—because this strategy changed my life, and I honestly believe it can change yours, too.

First Things First: Your Pinterest Profile Matters More Than You Think

If your Pinterest profile is looking a little “meh” or neglected, you’re leaving traffic and income on the table—big time.

One of the biggest game-changers in my journey was realizing that my Pinterest profile wasn’t just a place to store my pins. It’s actually one of the most powerful tools on the platform. Pinterest uses your profile to decide who to show your content to. It’s your first impression. A search result. A conversion tool. Basically… it’s an entire ecosystem on its own.

That’s exactly why I created the completely free Pin Perfect Profile Toolkit—a step-by-step guide to help you build a Pinterest profile that attracts, connects, and converts.

Inside the toolkit, you’ll learn how to:

  • Choose a profitable, Pinterest-friendly niche

  • Create a keyword-rich username that shows up in search

  • Write an “About” section that builds trust and sells

  • Pick a profile photo that feels on-brand and click-worthy

  • ...and so much more

Step Two: Create Easy to Read Pins! (so people actually click on them).

Because I thought Pinterest was all about aesthetics, I used to prioritize “cute” pins… until I realized no one was clicking them. Script fonts and aesthetic-but-illegible text? Pinterest death traps.

Once I shifted to bold, scannable, keyword-friendly pin designs, everything changed. My click-through rates skyrocketed—and so did my income.

Tip: Create pins that stop the scroll and clearly communicate what someone will get when they click.

Pinterest Board Titles & Descriptions = Hidden SEO Gold

Confession: I used to name my Pinterest boards things like “Dreamy Kitchens” and “-My Ideal Life-.” Cute? Sure. Useful? Not at all.

What I didn’t realize at the time is that your board titles and descriptions act like SEO tags on Pinterest. They help Pinterest understand what your content is about and decide who to show it to.

Once I started treating my boards like searchable keywords—hello “Budget Home Makeover Ideas” and “Easy Dinner Recipes for Busy Moms”—my traffic started to grow. It was some much-needed encouragement. It helped me to realize I might actually be onto something with this whole blogging and online business thing.

The Pinterest Creator Fund A Bonus Monetization Opportunity.

Pinterest isn’t the most glamorous social media platform. People don’t clamor to be verified on Pinterest or to gain a huge following like people do with TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, which makes this one of the best-kept secrets in the game.

Not many people know this, but Pinterest has a Creator Inclusion Fund that pays creators to show up and serve their niche.

It’s not guaranteed or always open, but it’s worth keeping your eye on!

If you’re eligible to join Pinterest will literally pay you to create content on their platform. You may know that YouTubers and TikTokers get paid to create content directly from the company, but did you know Pinterest will actually pay you to create content on their platform?

You have to apply to be part of the creator inclusion fund, and applications open and close periodically throughout the year.

The creator fund pays out grants, ad credits, and they will work with you and teach you more about the platform one-on-one.

You Can Use Pinterest as a Direct Money-Maker!

You don’t have to send every pin to a blog post. Pinterest isn’t just for driving blog traffic (although it’s great for that too). I started pinning directly to affiliate products, landing pages, and digital products—and saw instant income growth.

And yes, I still write blog posts (like this one!) But combining direct pin-to-product with pin-to-blog strategies was a total game changer.

If you’re strategic about how and when to use direct links, you can make a serious income with just a few high-performing pins. (Ask me how I know lol.)

Don’t Sleep on Blogging + Pinterest Together

A pin that links to a blog post? So powerful. Why?

Because people are way more likely to trust you, connect with your story, and take action when they land on a full post instead of a single product.

This is why I recommend combining blog content + Pinterest pins, especially when promoting high-ticket or lesser-known offers. The trust you build on your blog helps people feel confident enough to click "buy” which means more income for you.
