Would I Start a Blog in 2026?
My honest answer, from someone who’s been doing this for nearly a decade
I’ve been getting this question a lot lately:
“Would you still start a blog now?”
And not in a casual, curiosity way. More in a “I don’t want to waste my energy anymore” kind of way.
This year felt different for me too.
The holidays were quieter.
My house wasn’t decorated the way it usually is.
The peppermint latte didn’t hit the same.
And when life feels heavy, it makes you question everything, including the work you’ve built and the paths you’ve chosen.
So when people ask me if blogging still makes sense in 2026, I don’t answer it from theory or trend watching.
I answer it as someone who has been blogging for nearly 10 years, who built and maintained a six-figure business through:
the early “blogging boom” years
pre-COVID stability
the post-COVID shift
and now, an AI-filled, algorithm-heavy landscape
And my answer is still yes. I would absolutely start a blog in 2026.
But it would be much different, and I’d be very intentional about how.
The question people are really asking
When someone asks, “Does blogging still work?” I don’t think they’re asking about platforms.
What they’re really asking is:
“Is this still worth my time when everything feels harder and noisier than it used to?”
That’s a valid question.
AI exists now.
Social media is exhausting.
Advice online is louder and more contradictory than ever.
But here’s what hasn’t changed in the last decade, even as everything else has:
People still search for answers.
Helpful content still gets rewarded.
And consistency still beats intensity.
What stopped working wasn’t blogging.
What stopped working was the chaotic, “throw everything at the wall and see what sticks” blogging.
Why blogging is actually in a strong position right now
I’ve watched a lot of cycles in this industry.
And one pattern always repeats: when things stop being “easy,” most people leave.
They leave when results aren’t instant.
They leave when life gets busy.
They leave when they realize it’s not a lottery ticket.
That’s frustrating if you’re new. But it also means there’s less competition from people who were never committed to building something steady.
Google still rewards useful, specific content.
Pinterest still sends traffic without daily posting.
Email lists still outperform social media for conversions.
The opportunity didn’t disappear. The shortcuts did.
Why most people never move past the “trying” phase
After years of teaching and watching people start and stop, I can say this confidently:
Most people don’t fail because they aren’t capable.
They stall because:
the tech feels overwhelming
they don’t know what to do after setup
they second-guess every move
they carry too much mental load before they ever gain momentum
I’ve seen incredibly smart, motivated people burn out before they ever gave themselves a fair chance.
If I were starting today, I’d protect myself from that at all costs.
What I would do if I were starting from zero in 2026
I wouldn’t piece things together from random blog posts.
I wouldn’t Google my way through WordPress late at night.
I wouldn’t wait until I felt confident.
I’d remove friction early so I could focus on what actually builds results: publishing consistently and letting systems do the heavy lifting.
That’s the difference between blogging that fizzles out and blogging that lasts.
It took me years to learn that the hard way. If I were starting now, I’d skip that part.
